Today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of Prohibition via the 21st Amendment, a.k.a. Repeal Day. It's hard to fathom that for thirteen sad, dark years (1920 to 1933), our fine country was dry (or at least, legally so). Considering earlier this week was also the 75th anniversary of the bloody mary, there's twice as much to celebrate this year.

Our ceiling flooded all of a sudden this morning, after our last post. But what's a little fallen, drenched ceiling when there's a once-in-a-lifetime presidential election going on, eh? We left our friendly maintenance guy to talk to himself, sop things up with rags, dry things out with lamps, and headed back over to the Baltic Room for a little E-Day madness. There were at least as many people there as had been there when we left. Signs were everywhere. Food and drink was everywhere. Someone made Obama cookies, as you can see (delicious! probably all gone now).

As previously mentioned, Les Savy Fav play Neumo's tonight. If the idea of a pregnant dude spitting water on you doesn't quite float your boat, head to the Croc to check out Cave Singers and Fleet Foxes. Tonight is also a free-free-free hip hop show at the War Room with Bun B and Swizz Beatz, care of the redundantly good people at Goods and Zune. Show up early; the last event like this, with Clipse...

Seattle native TD Sidell's rap group Big Digits have unleashed a new video epic. They will perform live at the Baltic Room on June 20. Mark your calendars.

ART: The Seattle Erotic Arts Festival is back once again to tease and titillate us with its art and workshops. There's even an auction so you can take something home a provocative keepsake. Continues Sunday.

MUSIC: Pianist Jose Gonzales takes a holiday from his Thelonious Monk obsession to play an evening of romantic jazz standards at Madrona eatery St. Clouds, with bassist Mark Bullis and special guest Ray Baldwin on trumpet. Drink it up, baby. Yeah. That's right.

Music: The electronic talent of Guillermo Scott Herren's Prefuse 73 show at Chop Suey tonight comes highly recommended from every quarter of the Seattle media scape, and after listening to some of his work you can see why.

Tuesday 31st, Halloween Night

If Seattlest had any female friends, we'd totally make them go with us to Salon Dewi tomorrow night:

Tonight at the Baltic Room is the widely anticipated Rock Paper Scissors Tournament. Thus far, Seattlest is a far better scholar than player, besting none in tournament play while coaching others to near-victory. We think our luck's about to change though, as we managed to best our opponent yesterday in pre-tournament play. We have a good feeling about tonight - but we've said that every time and not had that work out. In any case, these are always a grand time, it's Friday, and the Baltic Room serves booze, so get your weekend started on the right foot - with a crushing defeat by Seattlest.

A little something for everyone. Consider next Monday's show the icing on the delicious music-y cake.

So, there's that big, crowded festival-thingy going on this weekend and we could recommend a bunch of stuff to hit there, but ah, we're far too lazy to do that. Here's the schedule - make yourself happy. No one's looking.

Seattlest doesn't find this picture funny at all. We know firsthand how hard those awkward years of high school can be. The pimples, the pants that didn't fit right, the God-awful hours spent wishing Heather Cannon would think of us as more than that creepy guy staring at her. If you think this picture is funny, well, you're a bad person.

After kicking our collective asses for four consecutive days, the heat is finally backing down. So pull yourself together. Go outside again -- especially to Capitol Hill this weekend.

This week Seattlest invites you to get your hand out of your pants and join us for some shows...

We extolled the virtues of Rock Paper Scissors before, so you can read that for the background on why we're lucky to have a tournament. Well, it's time for a new tournament, this time, the Capitol Hill edition. Tonight, at 8pm at the Baltic Room, it's time for Seattlest to assert its dominance. After months of reading strategy and practice, we're confident that we can make it past the first round this time, and outlast our current record of 7 seconds of participation. Can we do it? Will we be ridiculously shamed by one of our fellow bloggers? Will we be surrounded by a throng of Rock Paper Scissors groupies? Shunned by all after a quick defeat? Only one way to find out (and no, waiting for the follow-up post isn't the answer we're looking for).

The middle of the year is approaching, so we think it's fair to give you an update on the folks we listed as creating some of the best tracks to come out of the area last year. For those of you who missed out the first time, here's a second chance to hear what the Pac NW is putting out into the world.

Today is No Pants Day. It's also Cinco De Mayo. Seattlest thinks celebrations for the former will get started after celebrations for the latter, continuing until tomorrow. Since they'll run into tomorrow anyway, Seattlest declares this weekend No Pants Weekend. You can celebrate as you see fit, but for all the ladies, tomorrow's DJ Assault show is going to be the place to get your Girls Gone Wild on.

So the music at Tuesday's Oscillate was great. Jeff Milligan's set was wonderful to listen to, and those boys from Innerflight completely brought it, playing the best Seattlest has ever seen them play. But Seattlest is going to have to break it down a bit here: Jeff Milligan is a dick. There were apparently some monitor issues and some other minor technical issues, but from the crowd's perspective everything was ok, since it sounded great once he got in a bit of a groove. But rather than just making lemonade out of these lemons, Milligan was visibly frustrated, flicking off the equipment, roughly handling his records, and berating the night's promoters. It was all very primadonna-esque and completely unnecessary. Seattlest has been soured on Jeff Milligan, so we're fine if he goes back to Canada and never returns to our fair city. Any promoters that happen across this post would do well to steer clear of him as well.

The bar is set extraordinarily low for visual entertainment from DJs. Most opt to just mix tracks on two turntables, and while that (hopefully) sounds good, it's just doesn't have the same presence as a band. That's why showmen like Jamie Lidell or Jeremy Ellis and John Arnold are such breaths of fresh air, giving a crowd something to watch while providing the body with a rhythmic imperative. Tonight's Oscillate with Jeff Milligan should prove equally engaging, despite still being turntable-based in form.

You've got two options for where you should be Saturday night. Sure, there's more going on, but you'll have to trust us when we say that these two are where the action is. Anything else just won't be as good...unless it is.
