If you're wondering what happened to your ballot, don't start blaming your letter-carrier yet. King County Elections mailed them yesterday.
Elections Office: Don't Panic Yet, Your Ballots Went Out Yesterday
Most. Voters. Ever.
Washington State hit a milestone when it came to voting and voter turnout on November 4th. According to the official ballot count, over 3 million voters cast their vote in the general election and there are still over 50,000 ballots to be counted. A spokesman for Secretary of State Sam Reed said this is the first time in Washington history that voter participation has reached 3 million and that so far 83% of registered voters in Washington actually voted.
90% Voter Turn-out?!
From a Times article announcing that ballots from 53% of expected state voters are already in: "King County, the state's most populous county, has 1.1 million voters and is predicting an 85 percent turnout. Some counties are predicting a turnout as high as 90 percent." Holy smokes, that is a lot of voters! Seattlest just watched a Starbucks-sponsored commercial begging everyone to vote, and we're unashamed to say that we teared up big time. Actually, most articles we've read about the election today have left us a little choked up. Tomorrow can't come soon enough!
Dear Barack Obama For President Campaign
Seattlest has a brilliant idea for your re-election bid in four years. Can you do us a favor and create a check box on your website, next to where we might provide our email address when we donate or sign up for an event? We would like that check box to read "I am an enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama who is also a dedicated voter. You have my vote. Definitely. Please spend your money on mail-bombing undecideds, rather than me." This would, of course, be accompanied by a check box reading, "I'm thinking about voting for Barack Obama, but I'm not sold. Please email me every ten minutes." We're just saying we'd like to have a choice there. Speaking of choices...have you guys voted yet, or what? What are you waiting for?
