The Supreme Court announced today its decision to hear a case with Seattle ties. The Court will be considering reinstating a murder charge against a driver involved in a drive-by shooting outside Seattle's Ballard High School in 1994.
DEMOCRACY: There's a Seattle school levy election today. If you don't know where you are supposed to vote, but know your name and the day you were born, you can look it up online. If you can't get to that place, you can cast a provisional ballot anywhere--just march up to the nice poll-worker ladies at your local school or church and say "I'd like to cast a provisional ballot, please." We did it last election and it worked like a dream.
We wouldn't think that failing to get your daughter into Ballard High School would be so disappointing that you'd take it all the way to the Supreme Court. After all, who wants their daughter to be a Beaver for life?
All steel and blonde wood, the new Ballard library, opening this Saturday, May 14th, at 5614 22nd Ave. NW, appropriately resembles a modern-day Viking ship with a huge upward sweeping bow. Funded by the $72 million Seattle Center/Community Center levy that voters passed in 1999, the library is an architectural marvel that in may ways equals the main branch downtown.
