Unfortunately, just as sourcing the most affordable car parts may result in components coming from all over the country, producing the cheap ground beef in huge quantities means that the meat comes from many different cows. The result being that one tracking error would result in all the beef being untraceable.

JUST LIKE A DREAM: In a Dream chronicles the life of artist Isaiah Zegar and his wife Julia, both his mosaic art and their family life. The documentary is directed by their son Jeremiah, and he pulls no punches in showing how his father's obsessive, creative mind took its toll on his family. The intimate, emotional film has won awards from festivals as diverse as SXSW, the Philadelphia Film Festival, and the San Francisco Documentary Festival. He won a Pulitzer for his first novel, The Brief Wondrous LIfe of Oscar Wao, but when Junot Diaz took to the lectern at Benaroya Hall last night, after what he called a "super-long introduction," he looked out into the crowd and said, "Guys, you should be up here. Super fucking scary." Diaz's spoken voice was straight from the page: super-fucking-compelling, laugh-your-ass-off funny, shit so true you don't even tell your homies.

Just in time for Inauguration Day, 826 Seattle is celebrating the publication of Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids' Letters To President Obama (available January 20th). In the book, 826 students from all seven writing centers "reach out to the 44th president, speaking to the issues closest to their hearts, relating their life stories, and asking for help. Topics include the economy, education, war, global warming, race relations in America, and immigration. The book also includes letters about snow cones, puppies, microwavable burritos, dinosaur projects, multiplication, and the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, reportedly haunting a White House bedroom." To celebrate the book's release, there's a party and reading at 826 Seattle next Saturday afternoon.
