So Did You Hear the One about the Governor of Illinois?
Our sister site Chicagoist has been rocking and rolling on the Rod Blagojevich story all morning. The Illinois Governor was taken into federal custody on corruption charges, and Chicagoist went straight to the profanity-laced complaint that has multiple, wiretapped instances of Blago making what sound like illicit "deals." Discussing Obama's vacant Senate seat, Blago said: "I’ve got this thing and it’s fucking golden, and, uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for fuckin’ nothing. I’m not gonna do it. And, and I can always use it. I can parachute me there." Then they live-blogged the arrest press conference, took a hard look at Blago's Chief of Staff, and went hunting the web for all the Blago news fit to pixelize. While they were doing all that, we discovered Capitol Hill's Joe Bar has new crepe-making hours for December. Now the deliciousness begins at 7:30 a.m. Make a note of it.
Nickelsville Residents: Get Out Now Or Face Arrest
The Seattle Police Department gave residents of Nickelsville a 20-minute warning at 12:15 p.m. to vacate their encampment or face arrest. As of 12:35 p.m., the homeless residents of Nickelsville were officially considered criminal trespassers and subject to arrest. According to reports, some campers have chosen to follow orders while others have decided to stay and face charges. Sadly, at least those who stay at Nickelsville against orders are more likely to have a roof over their head tonight in jail than those who chose to comply.
Arrest Made in South Seattle Body Dump
It may not be The Sopranos, but the story of a body dump in broad daylight in South Seattle yesterday is becoming increasingly strange. Police arrested and booked a suspect this morning and the suspect is now under investigation for murder. The victim was a white man in his 60s who appeared to have medical or surgical instruments and tubes still attached to his body. Some reports say he also had a belt around his neck at the time of the body dump. Whichever detail is true, it adds an extra element of creepiness and shudders to the story.
Traffic Circle Murder Suspect Turns Self In
Brian Keith Brown, the man suspected of killing a Rainier Beach gardener with a single punch, turned himself into the Seattle Police this morning. Police charged Brown on Monday and released his photo and name to the public. He's been placed under arrest and is facing charges of second-degree murder. His first arraignment is scheduled for July 28th. Considering the mob-style outrage regarding this senseless story, jail is probably the safest place for Brown right now...and is certainly where he belongs.
Is Groping the New Stabbing?
Just last week, Seattlest reported to you that there seemed to be an alarming number of stabbings in Seattle, judging by local news reports. While we haven't noticed many stabbing-related stories this week, it appears there is a new crime du jour in the headlines: serial anonymous groping. We've already written about south Seattle's serial groper twice this week. With yesterday's arrest of a suspect in the south Seattle attacks, we were hoping to see 100% fewer headlines about anonymous groping assaults. No such luck. Our nightly perusal of local news websites found this headline on KOMO 4: "Police seek public's help in nailing Puyallup groper." The headline was located directly underneath the story regarding the arrest of Darin Boler, Seattle's suspected serial groper.
Suspected South Seattle Groper Arrested
At an afternoon press conference, the Seattle Police announced they have arrested a man they believe groped an Asian woman in South Seattle on Saturday and who they hope may be behind over two-dozen similar attacks. Darin Boler has been charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree assault for Saturday's incident. (The robbery charge is for stealing a would-be-witness' cell phone/camera.) Boler is a registered sex offender and has been previously convicted for raping a child and robbery. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of the attacks that have terrorized South Seattle residents for over two years.
Gas Thief Caught
Just hours after Seattlest's post, a man suspected of a string of high-volume gas thefts was arrested in Lakewood, Wash. Officers noticed a truck having "driving related issues." When officers tried to pull the truck over, the driver gunned it, leading officers on a brief chase. The suspect was eventually stopped by police maneuvers and was arrested. The suspect, who's name has not been released, is accused of stealing nearly $3,000 worth of fuel from local Shell stations.
Security Guard Stabbed Outside Federal Building
A security guard was stabbed outside Seattle's Social Security office this morning. The incident occurred after a man in his 40s became upset that the social security office wasn't yet open. A fight ensued and the man stabbed a security guard in the head. The security guard was conscious and alert on his way to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
