If you were one of the many concerned about how construction of WSDOT's latest SR-520 project's impact to the Washington Park Arboretum, take note. The City Council approved a measure today to execute measures to the park to make it suck less to be around during construction -- and some of them are being implemented by the end of the summer.

Today in Marsh Island and Arboretum Wildlife
It was too nice a day to spend entirely indoors. (Not that we aren't going to the Ms game tonight, but--okay we were bored.) So we grabbed our camera and slogged across Marsh Island and beyond, past the youth groups, past the college kids sneaking Coors Light in the great outdoors. Montlake was humid and alive with summering wildlife.

Ah, yes. At the Arboretum, underneath one of the onramps. We've tried to take this picture before, to less success.

That's right, little turtles. Soak up that sun while you can. The forecast is clear and sunny as far as we can see for the next several days, but you never know when the real September will stand up. This and other shots of sun worship available today and everyday in our Seattlest Flickr Pool.
Garfield High School Softball Bus Crashes, Loses Roof
A charter bus carrying the Garfield High School softball team crashed into a low pedestrian overpass in the Arboretum last night, shearing the roof off the bus. Five students who were passengers were taken to Harborview Medical Center after complaining of back and neck pain. Though none of the injuries appeared to be serious, the girls were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Stunning. On Flickr, Cap'n Surly's "Nighttime at the Arboretum" has been favorited 33 times so far -- it deserves more. It's not often that a piece of our infrastructure looks like an outtake from The Lord of the Rings. We're glad he shared it in the Flickr pool -- and we want to see your masterpieces, too. Are you in?...
