The Program (Dec. 18-22) will be way cooler than we initially thought, folks. Not only will some of the biggest names in NW hip-hop be on stage for your entertainment five nights in a row, but the latest news is that there are all kinds of technological tie-ins that will make this event very, very 21st-century.

We're Moving to Rainier Beach
Shortly before our car exploded, we were looking for a new place to rent. After our car exploded, our apartment search took a back seat to car shopping. But in the last few weeks, once our new car was settled, we returned to scanning Craigslist and strolling through neighborhoods. After spending all of our time in Seattle living above the cut (Wallingford, Wedgwood), we were hoping to move to the Rainier Valley (better work commute)...
As Mega As Churches Get In Seattle
Megachurches excite us in the way a NASCAR race excites us. We don't get it, but we want to get it, or, at least, witness it. The image we've gotten of megachurches recently intrigues. A vast mall with Tulalip Casino style parking set off the highway. Inside, the bolo ties of the faithful dip into sausage gravy and the shopping errands saved up throughout the week serve as an excuse to make the rounds. There's some kind of dance routine in the lobby where scantily-clad daughters worship in their synchronized way while proud fathers tuck their shirts deeper into their jeans. Eventually everyone files into something like an auditorium and someone charismatic with impeccable hair walks energetically around the stage for forty five minutes.
Dog-sled Racing: Not Just for Alaska Anymore
And Seattlest thought we bought hordes of dog food each month. We average about 50-60 pounds per month with our two chow-hounds--try 40 pounds per week. That's how much Perry Solomon and his family feed their 12 Alaskan huskies now that they are deep in dog-sledding season. The Seattle Times has a feature story running on Solomon, how dog-sledding has become a full family affair for him, and the upcoming races this weekend outside Plain, WA located north of Leavenworth in Chelan county.
Tours of Beauty
Ah, the glowing ball in the sky! Ah, the streets filled with sweaty, pasty Northwesterners! Summer has come to Seattle and is busily pinkening acres and acres of skin.
Tacoma Rainiers Season Home Opener - Play Ball!
Seattlest loves the Mariners. And Seattlest loves Safeco Field. That being said, there’s nothing like the smaller game of minor league baseball. Fortunately, our neighbors to the south in Tacoma boast the Rainiers, the only team to continuously play in the Pacific Coast League since 1960 (plus a brief stay in the league back in 1904-1905). Over their 45 years the Tacoma Rainiers have shared affiliations with seven major league teams including their current partnership with our beloved Mariners. The Rainiers field is in the barebones and classically unpretentious Cheney Stadium, erected back in 1957 in a mere 14 days. There is no instant replay or computerized hydroplane race, the wooden seats are all original, you’re guaranteed to be close enough to risk a foul ball clocking you in the nose, and the outfield lights remind you of the old days.
