Can't Miss It: Thursday

Can't Miss It: Thursday

HEAR HEAR: The Decibel Festival is up and running, and its second day promises an even bigger bang than its first. The Crocodile’s got Holy Fuck (these guys definitely deliver the danceable goods) and Truckasauraus. Bok Bok headlines the Baltic Room with three more DJs. Neumos sees Britain’s awe-inspiring Bonobo as well as Opiuo and others. Showbox at the Market has got Ladytron, Depressed Buttons, Geographer, and Sonoio lined up. But our money’s on the biggest show of the night taking place at Paramount, featuring musician and electronic sound designer Amon Tobin. Tobin’s got talent for blowing minds with an eclectic sound and gigantic live show. Expect huge things from Tobin, literally. With Baths and Tokimonsta. more ›

We love really good, complex, electronic music such as Amon Tobin, Prefuse 73, and Squarepusher. We are also, independent of that, big fans of music from northern Mexico (aka norteno). This is due partly to exposure to that area and its music via members of our family living in San Diego for many years, but mostly thanks to our longstanding affair with salsa music that started in early college and led us on a rampage of latino music consumption thereafter. more ›

Spinal Simpson

With its portrayal of a tour gone awry and a band's refusal to admit it, we think Spinal Tap is one of the best rock-n-roll movies ever made. Come see the real-life version of the movie when the Ashlee Simpson World Tour stops by the Paramount on Thursday. From the Saturday Night Live Acid Reflux debacle to the booing at the Orange Bowl, this has been a tour for the ages. This is definitely a show high in comedic value. After the concert, you might want to sign the 'Stop Ashlee Simpson' petition, since in this world there are very few issues that Republicans and Democrats can agree on. As of this morning, there are still plenty of tickets available on Ticketmaster. more ›
