A-Rod Returns Amid Rumor Kate Hudson Wants His Sperm

Kate Hudson wants A-Rod as a sperm donor, In Touch magazine reports. Says a "friend of Hudson" (ahem): "She just turned 30 and she's ready to have her second child...so she brought up the idea to Alex and told him that they would make a beautiful baby together, and that she would assume all financial responsibility."

The Yankees Are Coming! The Yankees Are Coming!

Safeco's meaty special of the week: The New York Yankees' first 2009 Seattle appearance, in a four-game series starting Thursday.

Can Fiery Jack Wilson Break the M's Shortstop Curse?

We're in our 33rd year of Mariner fandom, and we're still waiting for the M's to acquire a shortstop who's worth a crap.

Yankees 4, Mariners 2

A-Rod's second homer in as many nights sinks the Good Ship Mariner, as Andy Pettitte outduels Jarrod Washburn. Half of the M's offense was a solo homer by Griffey, his first in New Yankee Stadium. That's 44 major league parks Junior's homered in, one short of Sammy Sosa's record. M's 39-38, 3.5 GB. Box score. Next game Thu @ NYY, 4:05 p.m.; Vargas vs. Sabathia.

Seattlest Alumnus Dave Epstein has some advice for Tony Hawk, get a lawyer.

1986 is probably the most overlooked Mariner season of all time. They were able to turn the league's worst record into number one pick Ken Griffey Jr. Their bottom of the barrel effort in 1992 led to Alex Rodriguez.

Yesterday Ken Griffey Jr hit his 564th career home run, passing Reggie Jackson to take sole possession of tenth place on the all time home run list. This makes Seattlest very happy.

"I think [for] anyone that drives in over 130 runs numerous times in his career, it's impossible not to be clutch." -- Alex Rodriguez, May 2006.

With the playoffs underway we thought it would be fun to look at all of the former Mariners you may come accross

Last night, Alex Rodriguez, Seattle's most-hated former P-I Sports Star of the Year, came to the plate in the 9th inning of the Yankees' must-win game against the Angels. Derek Jeter, the anti A-Rod, had singled to lead off the inning.

We don't know what the most scarring experience of your early 20s was-- a disastrous relationship, a lengthy illness, a deep body massage from these guys--but ours was suffering through the late innings of each and every 1997 Seattle Mariners game, as the washouts and has-beens the team collected for its bullpen found new and inventive methods of losing games.

Nineteen-year-old Felix Hernandez, the jewel of the Mariners minor league system, is now an experienced major leaguer. Sure the experience is extremely limited, but Baseball America’s top prospect started today’s game in Detroit, and as anyone who knows anything about the game will tell you, once you face Craig Monroe you have arrived.

Seattlest loves the Mariners. And Seattlest loves Safeco Field. That being said, there’s nothing like the smaller game of minor league baseball. Fortunately, our neighbors to the south in Tacoma boast the Rainiers, the only team to continuously play in the Pacific Coast League since 1960 (plus a brief stay in the league back in 1904-1905). Over their 45 years the Tacoma Rainiers have shared affiliations with seven major league teams including their current partnership with our beloved Mariners. The Rainiers field is in the barebones and classically unpretentious Cheney Stadium, erected back in 1957 in a mere 14 days. There is no instant replay or computerized hydroplane race, the wooden seats are all original, you’re guaranteed to be close enough to risk a foul ball clocking you in the nose, and the outfield lights remind you of the old days.
