Finally an "Orange" alert level that means something: "An erupting Mount Redoubt exploded again this morning at 4:31 a.m.--its fifth and strongest discharge yet," sending ash to 60,000 feet. Travelers may have some delays to look forward to; the Anchorage airport is open, but Alaska Air has canceled 19 flights. Meanwhile, the volcano is at "Red" alert, as more activity may be on the way.

Playing Invisible Guitar Is Tougher Than You'd Think
Among other contestants, Mung was up against a guy in a silky, v-necked emerald-green jumpsuit, a crowd-pleaser by the name of Chester Swollen-Gourd, and a bespectacled dude by the name of Chop Chop Chop Stop. We were also treated to a performance by Bjorn Turock, who gave the critical judges panel the finger after his beautiful, well-choreographed demonstration. The three rounds went swiftly, with some spikes of excitement (one contestant during Round 1 ran back and clumsily leaped onto the bar for part of his 60-second performance!) and some not-so-exciting stretches (the lone female, despite her rocker-blonde hair in her eyes, wasn't inspiring).
How Hard Can Seattle Rock Air Guitar Regionals?
It's going down tonight. Contestants are carb-loading, judges are wrapping up their pre-competition detox diets, and the crowd--frankly, the crowd was born ready for the Seattle regionals of 2008's Cuervo Black US Air Guitar Championship tour! This is the first year that Seattle (home of Jimi, for God's sake!) gets to compete, and we have not a shadow of a doubt that local Air Guitar artists have more than enough attitude and commitment to the true patriot's pastime to stylistically slaughter the rest of America's contenders.
