When the Crocodile Cafe abruptly closed down a month ago, we turned to a friend of ours looking for the inside scoop. Kultur Shock guitarist Val Kiossovski was bar manager down for quite a while (he's now running his own place in Lower Queen Anne, Solo, one of our favorite hangouts), so we figured if anyone knew, he would. Unfortunately, he was busy with problems of his own: rescheduling his band's show.

There's a whole wide world out there, and here's the proof:

If you are between the ages of 28 and 40 and you like your indie rock, you are probably very excited about the Portastatic show this evening at the Crocodile. This band is fronted by Mac from Superchunk. If these names mean nothing to you, then you might want to see them because they have some really cute pop songs (and if circa 2003 indie cred means anything to you, they opened up for Rilo Kiley).

If you are a fan of the Arcade Fire (and if you don't have a ticket for their Wednesday night show at the Paramount), then you might want to get your indie fix at the Architecture in Helsinki show Thursday night at Neumo's. Both bands have a penchant for wacky instrumentation combined male and female indie-style singing. Plus, their songs are dance-able, which is never a bad scene (unless of course you have seen us dance).

As far as live music this weekend, may we recommend the crazy (or crazee, if you will) the Black Keys at Neumo's tonight. If you like the Liars or any noise rock band, etc, then they are for you.

If you weren't mortally wounded from the bitter Oasis/Blur feud that tore our country apart in the mid-nineties, then check out Oasis tonight at the Everett Events Center. As of the last time that we checked craigslist, tickets can be had pretty cheap. Personally we like both Oasis and Blur, but we always did consider ourselves to be the Switzerland of rock fans.

Since Seattle is a big techie town (perhaps explaining why our Ye Olde 8 Track store was unsuccessful), we offer today's techie music news.
