Amazingly, the world did not stop spinning when the Amanda Knox verdict was handed down. Here are some of the things you may have missed while you were singing her praise or condemning her to death.
Extra, Extra: Non-Knox News Items
Thursday Morning Headlines
People shot in South Seattle last night, potentially longer bar hours, more Kemperwatch, a series of alleged Fred Meyer gropings, an admitted child molester being allowed to watch his own video evidence, libraries, A LOT OF TOLLS and more in this morning's headlines.
Reminder: Upcoming 520 Bridge Closures
Memorial Day weekend doesn't just mark the unofficial beginning of summer--it's also the gateway to Seattle's construction season. Those three months each year when the weather holds out just long enough (we hope) to get a few things done. Let the sitting in traffic begin
Extra, Extra
Today was a big day for cancellations: Pacino, road closures, probably the Windows phone and probably free entrance to state parks.
520 Wants to Screw You Tomorrow
Sorry for the crassness, but it's too true. The Washington Husky Pigskin men are set to take on the UCLA Bruins (booooooo!) tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. in an uncommon midweek, weeknight matchup. That's nationally televised on ESPN. That Jake Locker was just cleared to play in. As his last home game ever. Fully 60,000 people are expected to show up and bark for Sark, throwing a wrench in the already commute-clustery area of Montlake.

Ah, yes. At the Arboretum, underneath one of the onramps. We've tried to take this picture before, to less success.

You never know what you'll find in our Seattlest Flickr pool--here we have startling evidence of the untapped ability to double 520's capacity overnight. Seeing is believing.
Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup
- Hello, weekend windstorm! The neighborhood blogs were aflutter about wind damage, power outages, and waves crashing over 520.
- The Rainier Valley Post has their weekly must-read letting you know what your City Council Member is scheduled to be up to this week. Looks like an exciting week at the City Council, covering topics such as sidewalk cafes (right in time for winter!) and the Mercer mess.
- MetBlogs has something about free money--which automatically makes us click off, fearful of what identity scam is coming next. But at quick glance, it appears to be legitimate--show up and get $10 and there is some pay-it-forward aspect to the scheme.
Light Rail on the Ballot This Fall?
Seattlest always kind of wants to roll our eyes when some transportation option gets put to voters in these parts. Call it a Pavlovian response trained into us through years of noncommittal discussion about monorails. But, today the Seattle Times is reporting that we'll get to vote on a light rail system that'll take folks to places like Overlake, Star Lake, and Lynnwood (sweet!).
Weekend Music
While this weekend is mostly dominated by all that Sub Pop hooha (and once again, kids, 520's closed, so take alternate routes), there's still a few shows besides those that Katelyn already mentioned.
520 Closed All Weekend
If you have to head east this weekend, your only options to get across Lake Washington are to take I-90 or the long drive north around the lake. (Technically you could also boat, paddle, or swim across we suppose.) State Route 520/The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge will be closed for the entirety of the weekend--from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday--for its annual inspection. The closure affects the span of SR520 from Montlake Boulevard to 92nd Avenue N.E.
