We were standing at the corner of 15th and East Pine the other night when we sniffed barbecue. We remembered suddenly that CHS had mentioned something about Gert's BBQ moving into the neighborhood--and there they were, in the parking lot across from Anchovies & Olives.

Starbucks Strips Down, Take 2
Turns out the stripped-down, de-logo-fied Starbucks up on 15th isn't quite the oh-so-original take on a neighborhood cafe that Starbucks intended. Linda Derschang, the owner of Smith, right next door, has sent an enraged letter over to the Stranger.
Coastal Kitchen Adds Late Happy Hour
We've previously had a bone to pick with 15th Avenue icon Coastal Kitchen, but not this time. An everyday 9-11 p.m. happy hour suits us just fine. (We love a good happy hour, but sometimes you want a drink outside of the 5-7 window.) In addition to $3 well cocktails, draft beers, and house wine, Coastal invites you to shell out just $3 for fish tacos, mini burgers, or fried calamari. We didn't even know Tunisia had a happy hour, but $3 can also net you a bacon-fried lamb meatball sub, chicken wrap, or flatbread pizza with tomato sauce and goat cheese.
Wanna Go YouTubing in the Snow?
Dawdy tipped us off about the snowball throw-down on 15th Avenue East on Saturday night--it was Liberty vs. Smith denizens and it...was ugly. Especially for cars trying to thread their way between the opposing parties. There's also an escape attempt on skis that goes horribly wrong. Once again we repeat: the streets aren't safe in this condition. Better to stay inside.
Lykke Li Takes 15th
So there we were, trudging down 15th Avenue East a little...not glumly, no, but resigned to the fact that we were walking down the street with two DiGiorno's for One--for One! like a knife slid under the ribs--in a plastic sack because we'd forgotten our canvas bag, along with a slice of double-chocolate cake because, well, we deserve it, and as we made our way past Sonic Boom we heard a voice carry out the open door and thought, Ha, that sounds like Lykke Li, upon which we recalled that Lykke Li was in town to sing at Neumo's tonight so we doubled back and peered inside and there she was, the magical little 22-year-old Swedish pop songstress, just starting "Little Bit," and dressed like a more sober-sided version of Avril Lavigne (i.e., less eyeshadow), then moving on to "I'm Good, I'm Gone"--"You can clap if you want," she said shyly, and so people did--before ducking off the little stage and disappearing, which freed us to continue on toward home and self-rising pizza, marveling over the wealth of experiences you can have any night of the week on 15th Avenue, some coming all the way from Stockholm.
Beware the Safeway on 15th Ave on Capitol Hill
Seattlest has that nasty cough and cold that seems to be making the rounds in town. Our best friend was kind enough to stop by the store and pick up some soup to try and nurse us back to health. Returning from the Safeway on 15th Ave on Capitol Hill, our best friend brought us Safeway's Signature soup that he'd bought today, which read "Best if Served by December 06, 2007." In our deliriousness we did a double take, wondering if we had transported back a few months with our fever, but no. Safeway on 15th is selling soup that should have been discarded last year.
