Ben Huh is the boss-man of I Can Has Cheezburger, an international blog phenomenon you might be familiar with through the quotable misspelled cutenesses of Lolcats. Because Huh's already explained why lolcats exist, we had some other questions for the man--yes, including his thoughts on sandwiches. I hear you are the fastest growing Seattle-based blog right now. Do you have plans for world domination? Not sure who measures the fastest growing Seattle blogs, so... [continue]
Last weekend, Seattlest revisited the other Shorewood High School for our 20-year reunion. And it's been 20 years since Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court left Lakeside High, so on our flight to Milwaukee, we got reacquainted with Cameron Crowe's Say Anything.... Singles gets the Seattle-centric attention, but Say Anything... is the movie where Seattle first caught our eye, several years before we actually moved to the land of the Gas 'n' Sip. FACT: Seattle... [continue]
With Oregon and Kentucky going to the polls today, Obama ready to take over an even clearer lead in pledged delegates, and Hillary poised to trounce him in whiteland, there's a lot of discussion on the interwebs about whether or not Hillary's supporters will get behind Obama when it's all said and done. It's a valid question. Obama is an eloquent intellectual who hasn't bothered to pander to the under-educated, under-paid among us. As... [continue]
Obama in Portland, Ore. at a record-setting rally on Sunday. (Courtesy of the AP) Portland, Oregon showed it was truly Obama country during a rally on Sunday, where an estimated 75,000 people showed up to hear the candidate speak at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, on the bank of the Willamette River. The photos of Obama--an ant amidst a sea of people--must be sending chills down the Clinton campaign's collective spine. The 75,000 strong crowd doubled... [continue]
A haunting image of the Port of Seattle and its cargo, courtesy of Seattlest Flickr contributor slippery joaquin Longshoremen at the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma are conducting a walk-out today to protest U.S. military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. Despite warnings from a Union arbitrator that all longshoremen must report to work on Thursday, reports from the Port of Seattle say that only a handful of workers showed up for their scheduled shifts. Officials... [continue]
The choreographic genius of Spectrum's Donald Byrd makes God-fearing folk swear and the irreligious cry, "Oh my god!" Partly that's because his dancers present as solid, sweating people, rather than mysteriously gesturing messengers. He consistently brings ideas back to the body--his pas de deux can have an X-rated quality--so you feel the argument he's making. Last night he was perched on the Moore's stage pre-show, mic in hand, "Okay, so it's not a full house... [continue]
Photo Courtesy of Seattlest Flickr Contributor, Kables Yesterday, Mayor Greg Nickels announced his plan for a six-year, $75 million levy to renovate Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. If passed by voters, the money would go toward renovating the Market's bathrooms, electric, ventilation, and heating systems, as well as seismic upgrades and new elevators. The century-old Pike Place Market has not undergone major renovations since the 1970s. Funding for the renovations would come from an... [continue]
A citizen-led group has been established in Ballard to save the Sunset Bowl from imminent closure. Save Sunset Bowl has already received 2,500 signatures from local voters to keep the bowling alley alive....at least until the summer of 2009, when the new owners of the property plan to break ground on a multi-use development. Supporters of the Ballard landmark got good news on Tuesday, when the spokesperson for the new owners said they would be... [continue]
"Third and Pine, rain or shine," the bus driver almost sings to his passengers. As the bus approaches each and every stop, our driver offers a whimsical rhyme or at least a lengthy, informative spiel on what you'll find, should you choose to disembark here and now. He is charming, jovial, and more importantly, a great driver. He doesn't feel the need to Top Gun his rig, only to come to a screeching halt fifty... [continue]
Neither did we. It's a nice little campaign, but we wonder how many car drivers who need to get the message will actually see the ad itself.... [continue]
