Countdown in Photos #23: Levi Weaver

Over the month of December I am planning to delight you with tales of my adventures as a concert photographer in 2011. They may be the best shots I took, or the best moments I experienced. Either way, it would be a shame for those to fall by the wayside and be left sitting dormant in my feeble mind. Keep coming back, there'll be a new one each day.

Check out yesterday's post with The Local Strangers.

Levi Weaver at a Seattle Living Room Show

House shows in Seattle are a huge part of the music scene but remain generally quiet affairs. I suppose they have to be or else the cops would come by but some of my absolute favorite musical moments this year have been in tiny living rooms smooshed in with fifty other people.

One such event was presented by the sister team of Kristen and Carrie Watt at Seattle Living Room Shows where two of my favorite local bands, Sean McGrath and Pretty Broken Things, performed as well as a surprising new out-of-town favorite, Levi Weaver.

Levi was impressive for a few reasons. He had been touring for nearly a year when I saw him and played a show almost every day of the tour. His album has a full band sound, but live he performs solo with looping machines and uses them with mastery. His stage presence is warm and inviting and off-stage he's excited to meet everyone and not just to sell albums.

Levi is one of my new favorite unknown artists for the year. If you don't know who he is and haven't listened to his music either listen below, look him up on Spotify for a taste or even better buy his album. Trust me you'll want to listen to it on repeat for a few weeks (which is exactly what I did).
