Tuesday Afternoon Music Break: Prom Queen's Dreamy Covers

prom_queen.jpeg As we've noted numerous times over the years, Seattle's music scene is a rich and varied landscape that is not dominated by any one genre; our region's hip hop is becoming just as dominant on the national soundscape as our rock and singer/songwriters fields. This attention to our region's music leaves a wide field open to exploration for the adventuresome.

On the last Afternoon Music Break, we put the spotlight on Jose Bold, this week, we'd like to introduce you to Prom Queen, the latest side project from Seattle's prolific Leeni. Under her name, Leeni has made big waves within the chiptune community, and is well established there. Other side projects include Leeni and Love, Romeo + Juliet, and now Prom Queen.

PQ continues to explore the psychedelic surf sound that was hinted at in R+J's debut album, currently focusing on covers that end up sounding like a cross between Angelo Badalamenti and The Ventures.

PQ is not just about covers, as their Bandcamp page lists one original, which resides in the same aural vein.

You could catch Leeni performing with Prom Queen live on Wednesday night at the Can Can, then as Leeni and Love on Sunday night in an evening called The Ho! Then, both bands will be performing at Vito's, on the 21st (Leeni and Love) and the 30th (Prom Queen).
