Can't Miss It: Thursday
PICKIN HITS: Wa-wa-whoa, there’s a whole lotta great shows taking place tonight. First, our suggestion: The Black Heart Procession at Tractor Tavern. Details on that one below. The BHP has offered subtle changes over the course of 6+ albums, but some things have remained the same - gloom, power without going aggro, and entrancing vocals. With Chelsea Wolfe, who may or may not be possessed by the eviler spirits of Sonic Youth and PJ Harvey, and with Rose Windows. Also tonight: Florence & The Machine plays WaMu Theater with beloved locals The Head & The Heart; and SF freak-folk artists Papercuts play Sunset with Yuni and Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick. Get those coins a-flippin.
9:00 p.m. // Tractor Tavern 5213 Ballard Ave NW // $14
ED WOULD: Comedian Dana Gould and MST3K fellows Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu provide live commentary on Ed Wood’s classic, so-bad-it’s-good film Plan 9 from Outer Space. The movie, starring Bela Lugosi, Vampira, and Dudley Manlove, is about grave robbers from outer space. Basically it's a mess, but it's a fun mess, which in some dialects translates to “comedic gold.” If you haven’t been to the new Uptown Theater yet, here’s the perfect reason to go.
7:00 p.m. // Uptown Theater 511 Queen Anne Ave North // $10-$15
HOT POTS: 'Tis the gift giving season, and the ceramic lovers at Pottery Northwest are having their annual Holiday Exhibition and Sale. Coincidence? We think not. This is a chance to view the work of a number of new residents at the studio and some outside guest artists whose handmade wares are available for purchase. Pottery NW is a non-profit organization providing studio space, classes, professional workshops, lectures, and galleries for both up and coming and established potters.
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. // 226 1st Ave North // FREE
