Seattlest's Favorite Things: Of Wiis, Winter Warmers, and Phantom Edits
Each week, the staffers at Seattlest share with you their favorite things of the week. From the shucked oysters availabe at a local market to the current season of The Amazing Race, Seattlest's writers want you to be in on everything that made them smile this week. What are your favorite things? Send 'em along to tips@seattlest.com
Taylor Shellfish Farms': For their retail outlet in the Melrose Market, because they sell shucked oysters, clam chowder, oyster stew, beer and wine. -- Ron H.
Super Paper Mario for Wii: I mean, come on...but that's probably the drugs talking. -- Sarah L.
Winter Warmers: I know this comes as a shock, but there are so many great ones out this year, and so many awesome events around town showcasing them. Particular favorites right now are Sleigh'r Dark Doüble Alt Ale from the Ninkasi Brewing Company, and Maritime Pacific's Jolly Roger Christmas Ale. -- Dikla T.
More Wii Games and an Unfavorite: Sarah, those must be good drugs. I'm rocking Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on WiiWare, then probably MegaMan X, 'cause I'm like that. Otherwise, all I want is to live long enough to see the prefix "post-" vanish from any discussion of art, science and society. Post-modern. Post-rock. Post-dance. Post-quantum. Post-dramatic theatre. Post-traumatic stress disorder. Post-grapenuts-cereal. Stop looking backwards already. Hulk smash puny post-humans. -- Omar W.
The Amazing Race & Phantom Edits: For me it would have to be the current season of The Amazing Race, which, after years of hyper-aggressive manipulations by Jerry Bruckheimer's production team, has landed in the hands of series host Phil Keoghan. Under his stewardship, the Race> has returned to its roots: ambiguous clues, generally likeable teams and gorgeous photrography. As this season gets into the home stretch, I'm sorry to see Ma & Pa get ousted last week, and I'm cheering for Team Bland to go next.
Locally speaking, this viral clip of shots created for the opening credits to Nik Perleros' film short How To Get Laid using Phantom is still an eye-catching marvel. The film itself is a hoot, features a ton of local talent in front of and behind the lens; while we can't embed it here, you are only a couple of clicks away from viewing it yourself. -- Jose A.
