Earlier this morning, Seattlest received word that Edie Whitsett passed away last night. The long-time and cherished Properties Shop Manager at Seattle Children's Theater had been in good health as recently as a month ago when the cancer that had been in remission returned and led to complications. Seattlest will offer a remembrance in the coming days.

For those not in the theater community, a properties person is responsible for all of the little items that make up a show's production. The candle that Scrooge is holding in the dark? That's a property (or a 'prop' in theatrical parlance), and the more ornate the production, the bigger the responsibility of the Properties Manager.

Whitsett has been designing properties for Seattle's professional stages for a long time now, her work has been featured at SCT, as well as the Intiman, The Village Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the Seattle Opera.

Our condolences to her friends, colleagues and family.
