Extra Extra: Climactic Conclusions

It's been a day of reckoning on many levels, as the judicial system handed down several decisions that affect a wide array of people in the Seattle area in both positive and negative ways.

On the good side of things, DK Pan has had all criminal charges held against him dropped by King County prosecutors. Pan was a subject in a story about the excessively invasive investigative practices undertaken by the Seattle Police Department in conjunction with the FBI written by the Stranger. [SLOG]

On the other hand, a judge's decision to reject Occupy Seattle's request for an injunction against the Seattle Central Community College desired eviction of the protested means that the encampment will have to pick up sticks and find another place to inhabit. [KOMO]

Meanwhile, the Vashon Island rapist we wrote about yesterday afternoon has been sentenced to 45 years in prison, after which he will be held as a violent sexual predator. [Seattle PI]

Several nationally prominent anti-trafficking groups have come out asking for Backpage.com to take down all escort ads hosted on its site. In a letter written to Village Voice Media summarizes it best: "We recognize that Backpage.com may lose the considerable revenue it generates by the Adult ads. However, a recent article suggests that Backpage.com would still be a successful business if it did not operate the Adult section of its website." [Publicola]

While Seahawks fans are still celebrating the resounding victory their team had over the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night, Philly fans with a taste for bitter grapes are enjoying the last laugh, as Defensive End Raheem Brock has been sentenced to six month's probation for stiffing a Philadelphia restaurant for a $27 dollar tab. (For extra irony, add in the fact that he left two Philly cheesesteak sandwiches unclaimed.) [Seattle Weekly]
