Countdown in Photos #2: Bon Iver

Over the month of December I am planning to delight you with tales of my adventures as a concert photographer in 2011. They may be the best shots I took, or the best moments I experienced. Either way, it would be a shame for those to fall by the wayside and be left sitting dormant in my feeble mind. Keep coming back, there'll be a new one each day.

Check out yesterday's post with Band of Horses.

Bon Iver at Paramount Theatre

Over the last year I've discovered many well-known artists--whose music, for one reason or another, I just hadn't gotten into. That may be a theme throughout these posts because I find those experiences some of the most rewarding. I try to suspend judgement, either positive or negative, about a band or artist until I have the opportunity to experience their music for myself. Hype is a strong motivator, but avoiding it has worked to my advantage.

One such instance was Bon Iver. I knew Justin Vernon had been in a group with the guys from Megafaun, of whom I was already a big fan. Justin's skyrocketing success with Bon Iver didn't hit my radar until many of my friends had begun to tout his incredible music. Holding back until I had a chance to see him for myself, I was absolutely blown away by his show at the Paramount earlier this year.

I was able to see the show from several areas around the theater. Not only was the beautiful music reverberating around every crevice of the auditorium, but the visuals were gorgeous as well. It's a show I will most certainly remember.
