Can't Miss It: The Weekend

WAY BETTER THAN 7 MINUTES IN HEAVEN: Since 1997, Annex Theatre has spent every first Friday slotting the best random snippets of theater, music, dance, spoken word, film, and whatever else they can find each after another on one stage. They call it Spin the Bottle, and tonight it's pointing at you. But who spun it? Was it Miss Mamie Lavona The Exotic Mulatta and Her White Boy Band? Maybe magician Louie Foxx? Perhaps The Habit? Or was it a super-secret pinkie swear spin between Dartanion London and Kate Jaeger? No way to know until you go. Bring your Binaca.
Friday 11:00 p.m. // Annex Theater // $10
LIGHT UP WINTER: Yes, we know we sometimes give short shrift to our Eastside neighbors, but as we move into the giving season, we'd like to do just a bit to rectify that. What better place to start than the Redmond Lights Winter Festival, a sweet little shindig just over 520. Featuring a tree lighting, an illuminated walk along the Sammamish River, and performances by Toy Box Trio, Vadya Vrinda & Bollywood Orchestra, Rainier Brass, Anzanga Marimba, among others, there's a little something for everyone.
Saturday 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. // Redmond City Hall // Free
INTRODUCE YOURSELF: After taking in your monthly fill of the lands across the water, hoof it back to catch our faves The Local Strangers as they join Shenandoah Davis, Big Sur, and Hannalee at the Columbia City Theatre. This will be a gentle, textured evening of music, the perfect landing.
Saturday 9:00 p.m. // Columbia City Theatre // $10
GET ICED: Perhaps the best way to celebrate the season is to head down to Seattle Center, where they have once again set up the Winterfest Ice Rink. From now until the first day of 2012, you can strap on skates and practice triple lutzes to your heart's content. Or just hold on to the sides to keep from falling down like we usually do.
Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday - Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. // Seattle Center's Fisher Pavilion // $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 6- 12, $2 children ages 5 and under. Admission fee includes skate rental. Cash only
