Tomorrow's PM Commute: Likely A Disaster Due to Seahawks
Seahawks Stadium at Night by mahalie.
If you find yourself stuck in a gridlock on I-5 tomorrow, you can blame the local gridiron. The Seahawks will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles (and you know how we feel about eagles) at what is quite possibly the worst time for a football game: 5:20 p.m.
The kindly folks at SDOT are concerned that your afternoon commute tomorrow will be a nasty one, and rightfully so. Not only does the game fall during the precise time when I-5, Highway 99, and the bridges are a disaster anyway--officials are also expecting attendance of around 67,000.
Greater-than-average congestion on Interstates 5 and 90 is expected from around 4 in the afternoon (so much for leaving work early) into the evening as late as 6 p.m. or later. Traffic in SoDo, Pioneer Square, and Downtown will also be impacted.
The Eagles, who have repeatedly been described as one of the "most disappointing teams in the NFL" will still prove a formidable match for the struggling Seahawks in what will be one of the biggest games of the season. And opponents of dog fighting and animal cruelty need not worry about boycotting the game--Michael Vick is out with an injury.
If you're concerned about traffic tomorrow (particularly if you're a ferry commuter or work near SoDo), we suggest telecommuting so that you can skip the congestion and see the kickoff.
