Can't Miss It: Thursday

ghetto_physics.gif FALL FEIST FEAST: Feels like forever since Feist’s much loved album The Reminder came out in 2007, so we were excited for this fall’s follow-up, Metals. Since the sweeping success of The Reminder, the former Broken Social Scene member has performed with Wilco, Beck, Grizzly Bear, Ben Gibbard, The Muppets, et al. Feist obviously plays well with others. Metals sees her teaming up again with collaborators Chilly Gonzales (who’s come along for the tour) and Mocky, though this album is decidedly less pop-oriented and more dynamic than The Reminder. Considering “1234” is still stuck in our brain, that suits us fine. Here’s a live performance of Metals single “How Come You Never Go There.”

OCCUPY THE STREET: Filmmaker E. Raymond Brown teams up with What the Bleep do We Know producer/director William Arntz for Ghetto Physics, an interesting take on the concept of “pimps and prostitutes” on the street, in corporate boardrooms, Washington D.C., and elsewhere. Pimps are the 1-percent! The film touches on the struggling economy, healthcare woes, and global resource wars. It features Dr. Cornell West (already arrested twice for his Occupy involvement), Ice-T, KRS-One, former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and “a colorful contingent of street characters.” The trailer here.

7:00 p.m. // SSCC - Jeremy Brockey Cent. Rm A 6000 16th Ave SW // $10

STAGING SCREEN: Director Kenneth Collins and video artist William Cusick have a thing for movies…and a thing for the stage. As Temporary Distortion, they use theater to explore film genres, breaking down and manipulating both mediums in more ways than one. Inspired by 1970s cop movies, tv police action, and real-life PD stories, Newyorkland concerns 4 NYPD cops dealing with cop-life in the Big Apple. The production is staged in a “box-like” structure, an installation that also serves as a canvas for Cusick’s video work.

8:00 p.m. // On the Boards 100 W Roy St. // $12-$25
