Seattleite Tom Nissley Finishes Second in Jeopardy's Tournament of Champions

Tom Nissley.JPG Local hero and former Amazon employee Tom Nissley gave Seattle another reason to put up with Alex Trebek's painfully awkward commentary and that earwormy theme music, when he scooted into second place in the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions, winning a cool $100,000. It must be something in that Puget Sound water.

Nissley, who's one of the highest consecutive regular Jeopardy earners (behind some other dude and other local Ken Jennings) from his eight-show triumph last year, put his Amazon knowledge to use with multiple literary categories. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough to trump Roger Craig's multiple Daily Doubles (and huge wagers).

Of course, Jeopardy is as much about knowing the answers as it is about playing the game, as Jennings (who Nissley interviewed for his super-eloquent blog) has explained more than once. And while Nissley was able to get back on the buzzer in the end of last night's game, it wasn't quite enough to round out Craig, who won $250,000 for taking first place.

Nissley was more than just an on-screen player, though. He's been active online, blogging about his Tournament run at the beginning of the month. His blog shares insightful bits of Jeopardy intel, like an epic image of the Pyramid of Greatness, and commentary about how the Jeopardy overlords prefer men to wear ties--which is, of course, really foreign to a Seattleite and former Amazon employee.

The 44-year-old local also Tweeted his commentary of last night's show along the way, much to the delight of followers, friends, and fans.

Congrats to Tom, who proves that Seattle residents are both brainy and good at things--whether they wear a tie or not.
