Chekhov In The Workplace: There are several layers of brilliance at work in Pony World Theater's Suffering, Inc., the most obvious of which is the repurposing of portions of Chekhov's canon in order to import his words and see how they play in a modern setting. That's there for those who are uninitiated, and it's remarkable how easy it seems to tune into Chekhov's wavelength in this setting. For fans of the canon, there are two satisfying elements to revel in: One is playing Spot The Source ("That monologue's from The Cherry Orchard and that bit of dialogue is from Three Sisters!"), the other is in the building of an archetypal Chekhov play out of the random parts that somehow feels organic, and not a pastiche. Looking at the price of admission, this bears some consideration.

Telling Tales Out of School: Ian Bell's Seattle Confidential, a quarterly showcase being co-produced in conjunction with ACT's Central Heating Lab, brings us its November entry entitled "Holiday Horror Stories", just in time for the year's holiday laden final 45 days. For the uninitiated, Seattle Confidential invites the general public to anonymously share the stories they wouldn't dare to tell their closest friends, let alone a roomful of strangers, and then re-enacts them using the area's talented professional actors; the series has been met with resounding success this year.

Tonight at 7:30p.m. // ACT's Bullitt Cabaret, 700 Union Street // $15
