Go West!: Octopus Obsession Edition

We love our West Seattle neighbors, and thought they deserved more attention. Every Friday, we'll post the week's happenings in Seattle's island town.

These things happened in West Seattle this week:

  • Remember when we were obsessed with octopi? Check out this sweet octopus off Alki Beach!

  • You guys lost Amanda Knox: she has apparently moved to a one-bedroom apartment in the International District with her boyfriend. That they, somehow, pay $1,000 a month for. (Seriously, friends of Seattlest pay less than that for a two-bedroom.)

  • John K. Sylve was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of Steve Bushaw. Bushaw was shot and killed on the 4700 block of California Avenue SW in February of 2009.

  • Some asshole managed to drive the wrong way on the West Seattle Bridge for an unsettlingly long period of time, according to nearby drivers.

  • Thanks to concerned citizens, the bike commute between West Seattle and downtown might get a little safer.

  • The West, a new West Seattle based social/activism/arts/etc alliance, is gearing up to do things.

  • An accident between a school bus and a car sent both a 10-month-old and the driver of the car to the hospital, but they're both doing okay.

  • A townhouse near Chief Sealth High School caught fire.

  • The community rallied hard against the proposed cut of Metro Route 37 at King County Metro's open house on Wednesday, as well as Route 22 and parts of Route 21.

Coming up soon:

  • Missed your chance to give input on proposed King County Metro service revisions? You have another chance Thursday, November 17.

  • West Seattle Blog's Tracy Record will be speaking as part of a series curated by The Oregonian on November 19. It's in Portland, but there will be a simulcast!

  • Some West Seattle schools may reopen! Give input to the district on Monday the 28th at Denny International Middle School.

  • The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Patti Mullen is leaving to serve the same position at the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce starting in January. The going away party for her December 1 at Feedback Lounge (previously just the Chamber's holiday party).
