GET YOUR GLITTER: As we've mentioned before, this weekend marks the Glitter Sale, the annual blowout of jewels, fur, glamour, and God knows what else that Goodwill's been stocking up for the past year. If you need to glam up your wardrobe, this is the place to be. Which is why you'll be fighting with what will seem like half the city's population over that amazing costume broach, those supple Gucci sandals, and just about everything else. While high-dollar names and sparkles are the name of the game, all items are marked at Goodwill prices, so keep your elbows out and eyes peeled.
Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. // Dearborn Goodwill // FREE (except for whatever bejeweled fur muffs you buy yourself. That, you have to pay for.)

WRITE FOR YOUR LIFE: In case you didn't know, November is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short. Awkward, yes, but short. Basically, a bunch of nuts (including the author of this post in years past) spend November writing a novel or 50,000 words, whichever comes last. If it sounds crazy, it kind of is, and yet it's also incredibly fulfilling. For those who are already on the path, and those who want to join them halfway through--seriously, some do, and some of them succeed--the Hugo House is hosting a halfway party/all-day write-in on Saturday. Show up anytime for games, word sprints, novel excerpts, cake, and the chance to call yourself a novelist.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. // Hugo House // FREE

SLACK OFF: In Hawaii, it's called ki ho`alu, which translates to "loosen the key". You'll recognize it as the finger-picked, loosely paced guitar stylings of our island state, a warm, slow aloha of ukuleles, slide guitars, and gentle harmonies. And that's precisely why you should invite yourself to the Third Annual Seattle Slack Key Festival this Sunday at Town Hall. This year features a diverse range of Hawaiian musicians including Cyril Pahinui, Jeff Peterson, Sonny Lim, Makana, Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Greg Sardinha, and ukulele prodigy Kunia Pahinui-Galdeira. As it gets colder and cutting outside, warm up on some traditional big island sounds.
Sunday 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. // Town Hall // $35-$125
