Tweeter of the Week: @SeattleDJC
If you're even remotely interested in what's opening, closing, or happening in Seattle, it's wise to immediately begin following the Daily Journal of Commerce's Twitter account. It's as simple as that.
While their actual daily journal can be a bit...dry, there's definitely some good information in there, which you'll be notified of if you follow them on Twitter. Regularly Tweeting their top stories (as well as when their offices will be closed, and the occasional re-Tweet of an interesting photo or article from someone else), the DJC helps keep you looped on what's happening in and around Seattle, without forcing to you slog through pages of public notices and other zoning boredom.
Because the thing about commerce is, while it sounds boring, what it actually is is what's happening around town. Who's leasing their properties, who's moving into what spaces, and who's behind on the rent. Which is all good information if you're a citizen reporter, or just interested in what's cracking in your neighborhood. What's that new business going to be? ANOTHER Thai restaurant? No! It's going to be a much-needed bodega, according to the DJC.
Sure, some of the articles are a little industry-heavy ("Goodman tees up 263-unit project" wasn't a particularly grabbing headline to me), but there's also a lot of good information (does "46 apartments planned for site on Capitol Hill" pique your interest?) about housing and development. Which is interesting, I promise.
Follow @DJCSeattle to stay up-to-date on what's coming and going. The next time you and your friends pass an empty storefront, you may even get to be the smart one who knows what's on the way.
