Poll: Did You Actually Hear the Emergency Alert System Test?
You're used to weekly and monthly local Emergency Alert System tests -- you know, the blaring alarm that interrupts your late-night TV for a few seconds. On a local level, broadcast stations are already required to do weekly and monthly tests, which we use for weather warnings, Amber Alerts and other emergencies, but never one happening on all stations nationwide. You know, to make sure the President can talk to everyone in the event of an alien invasion of the US or whatever.
The problem with this system, and the reason it almost seems silly that the first-ever national test was today, this year, is that our media is increasingly internet-based and a la carte or on-demand. Where were you during the Emergency Alert System test, and was it near a TV or a radio?
The test was at 11 a.m. PST. Did you hear it?
