Seattle Fire Department Blames an Overheated Bathroom Ceiling Fan for Weekend Blaze
Add this to the list of things that can catch your house on fire: the fan in bathroom.
According to the Seattle Fire Department, a blaze that started in a North Seattle home on Sunday was caused when a ceiling fan in a bathroom overheated. The fire burst through the first floor window and spread into the attic, causing damage to both levels, as well as to the exterior of the home.
Firefighters initially suspected that the Bitter Lake blaze was caused by a dryer, which would make a lot more sense.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, though one firefighter was taken to Harborview for minor injuries. Damages to the home are reported to be in the region of $75,000.
This is the only entry on the Seattle Fire Department's blog with either of the tags "fan" or "ceiling", however, it is not the only recent fire that was started in this manner. This summer, an overheated ceiling sparked a similar blaze in Spokane.
