This Week in Lit: Space Needle, SPREAD and Amanda Palmer

sleeep.jpg A busy week in the world of reading--check out some of our events in Seattle this week.

Paula Becker and Alan Stein at Lake Hills Library, Bellevue:
Make the trek to Lake Hills Library for an evening of Seattle history and memories. HistoryLink.org staff historians Paula Becker and Alan Stein will be presenting their book, The Future Remembered: The 1962 Seattle World’s Fair and its Legacy. Pictures, reminiscing, more pictures! I’m sold on anything that gets the locals excited about our own rad history.

Monday, 7 p.m. // Lake Hills Library, Bellevue // Free

National Novel Writing Month Writing Event at University District Book Store:
This is where you can finally work on your novel for NaNoWriMo! I don’t know about you—but those first pages are the worst. Luckily University Book Store is hosting a night of writing, caffeine and company—scoot yourself over to the store and get started. You only have 23 days left!

Monday, 6:30 p.m. // University District Book Store // Free

SPREAD Release Reading at Richard Hugo House:
Back in the day Seattle boasted a free monthly journal called SPREAD—it was packed with poetry and wit, and its been missed ever since. Spankstra Press (a Seattle-based small press) has bound all of the issues and is hosting a reading to show off this new book. Michael P. Smith, Karen Perry and Arne Pihl are just a few of the featured readers—but there are plenty of others involved, along with music and a charming evening at the Hugo House!

Tuesday, 7 p.m. // Richard Hugo House // Free event, SPREAD for sale for $25

Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman at Moore Theatre:
Fans of The Dresden Dolls are familiar with the creative wiles of Amanda Palmer—and her latest venture is as entertaining and unique as one could hope!
The project began with the idea of creating songs for the piano and voice, recorded in one week in a bedroom. That became her debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer—and Neil Gaiman created a story from her songs (which of course will be part of the show as well!). Hell yeah.

Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. // Moore Theatre // tickets available through stgpresents.org

Adam Mansbach at Elliott Bay Book Co.:
It’s the man who wrote Go the Fuck to Sleep—you know you love him. His previous novels have included The End of the Jews, Angry Black White Boy, and Shackling Water—but nothing has garnered quite so much attention so quickly as the bedtime story for the fuckin’ exhausted parents. See him in person—I guarantee some chuckles.

Thursday, 7 p.m. // Elliott Bay Book Co. // Free
