We love our West Seattle neighbors, and thought they deserved more attention. Every Friday at 3 p.m., we'll post the week's happenings in Seattle's island town.

These things happened West Seattle this week:

  • As you have probably figured out, the Alaskan Way Viaduct reopened with a slower speed limit and demolished, former viaduct parts adding to the scenery.

  • The neighborhood got all decked out for Halloween. Their houses, too!

  • A West Seattle woman is essentially launching a hire-me marketing campaign in an attempt to get a job with the Mariners' marketing department.

  • Middle Eastern joint Mawadda Cafe opened in the Junction.

  • More details on the 60-something suspects in a string of bank robberies, including one in West Seattle where one was allegedly wearing a Hillary Clinton mask, have been released.

  • West Seattle Elementary got a brand new library, courtesy of Target.

  • Metro has begun taking input on proposed changes to West Seattle service.

  • Stockbox, the pop-up grocery in Delridge, was featured on the New York Times' small business blog!

  • If Seattle's $60 car tab fee passes, it could mean road improvements on California Avenue a mile south of the Junction.

Coming Up:

  • Petco's new location opens tomorrow.

  • Sunday morning, the West Seattle Eagles Aerie is hosting a brunch to benefit the family of Ed Kingston, a community member who died suddenly last month.

  • The Feedback Lounge is hosting a fundraiser for longtime community member Jan Seeley, who has fibrillary glomerulonephritis and is waiting for a kidney transplant, on Sunday afternoon.

  • Big meetings coming up concerning changes to Metro service to West Seattle: November 9 and November 17.

  • 80s Flashback Adult Prom raises money for the Chief Sealth International High School Class of 2012 on November 19.

  • Holiday business is starting -- the Christmas light show Helmstetler Family Christmas Spectacular is November 26 at 7 p.m.
