Suspect in Interbay Murder Shot by Detectives in Belltown after Using Dead Man's Credit Cards

Yesterday, on a busy corner in Belltown, homicide detectives were investigating the murder of an 84-year-old man at a self-storage unit in Interbay on Saturday. Detectives, Seattle Police spokesman Mark Jamieson said in a press conference yesterday, were using photos of the suspect, as well as the information that the suspect was using the dead man's credit cards, to track his movement. At around 2:30 p.m., the detectives made content with the suspect, who, according to the police, advanced toward the officers, causing detectives to draw down and shoot the suspect, who later died at Harborview.

The hunt for the suspect, who was who was using the dead man's cards downtown and on Capitol Hill, took multiple teams of SPD detectives, armed with photos of the suspect, and video surveillance of the man, who was confirmed to be a convicted felon. However, it was in Belltown that he was located and confronted.

Details of the death of the subject, as well as the murder of the man at the storage unit (which has been described as "brutal" and "violent"), are still sparse. No names have been released, but both the King County Sheriff's office and the Seattle police have been forthcoming about the officer-involved shooting, which occurred on the corner at 4th and Cedar, in front of Bambino's Pizzeria. It is still unknown whether or not the suspect was armed.

The Sheriff's Office has also stated that, because homicide detectives are usually the ones that investigate office-involved shootings (and not the ones who are involved in them), the Seattle Police would not be doing their own internal investigation. Instead, KCSO will be looking into the shooting to ensure that there was no wrongful behavior. Fingerprints from the suspect have been taken to compare to fingerprints found at the scene of Saturday's murder.

KSCO has already confirmed that they will be releasing no new information today, but it's unlikely that that will slow the spread of rumors and misinformation.
