Tweeter of the Week: @OnlySeattleGems
From now until I forget to do it, I'm going to highlight my favorite Seattle Tweeter. Think of it like #FollowFriday, but less about getting followers for myself, and more about exposing Twitter accounts that are notable, humorous or informative--and always under 140 characters.
When Only In Seattle first launched, I was skeptical. Mostly because of the many, many, many Seattle stereotypes that I immediately imagined would pour forth from something that, immediately upon its launch, claimed to know the ins and outs of a city. But I was wrong, and Only In Seattle actually has a pretty interesting and informative Twitter accoumt.
@OnlySeattleGems is mostly useful because it aggregates a lot of goings on. Events, restaurant openings, concerts, national days to celebrate the existence of oxygen--they're seen it, retweeted it, and responded to three people with questions about it already.
Neighborhood focused, Only in Seattle is great about not falling into the trap of only talking about Capitol Hill. They're certainly not perfect (they called Belltown a "mecca for the young professional set", by which I can only imagine the "up-and-coming entrepreneurs who sell stolen watches and crack", or possibly "every reader of D List magazine"), but their Twitter account does offer some pretty interesting stuff that no one else seems to be focusing on pulling together.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Only in Seattle. Someday, maybe your optimism about Belltown will pay off. In the mean time, keep letting us know where we can eat ice cream for lunch and how to get our hands on cheap Sounders tickets.
