Can't Miss It: Thursday

felicebros.jpg BROTHERLY LOVE: The Felice Brothers are a few years separated from the subway stations of NYC, but it's been all upward since they first emerged from the underground. The folk/country group from upstate NY has toured with Bright Eyes, Justin Townes Earle, and opened for DMB. Now signed with Fat Possum, the group released the evolved Celebration, Florida this year. They perform as part of the City Arts Festival. Also on the bill are Seattle singer/songwriter Shelby Earl and the ever impressive Grabriel Mintz.

WORDSMITH’S DELIGHT: Seattle poet and professor Heather McHugh is celebrated tonight with City Arts Festival’s The Ecstasy of Influence. The evening features short readings from three of her former and current students, and McHugh will also read. There will be songs based on McHugh's poems performed by bluegrass band The Half Brothers. Hosted by Jennifer Borges, the event will also showcase on-the-spot painting inspired by McHugh's work created by visual arts collective Chrom-A-Matic. The paintings will be auctioned off to benefit World Society for the Protection of Animals. That's a lot of amazing stuff going on in one place at one time. The silk that holds it all together is McHugh's remarkable work.

APPETITE FOR COMPOSITION: We’re looking forward to checking out Duff McKagan’s new book, It’s So Easy (and other lies). The former Guns N’ Roses bassist and Seattle native has some serious writing chops, and we can only imagine the stories he has to share (Please god let them be more believable than those in Motley Crue’s The Dirt). Coming out the other side of GnR with his brain not only in tact but sharp and lucid seems like an act of extreme will power. Tonight he’ll share from his book, answer audience questions and take part in a multi-media exploration of his career.
