Something to Sing About: City Arts Fest and SIFF Team Up
City Arts Fest and SIFF Cinema presents Hedwig and the Angry Inch Sing Along at the Uptown
The Heineken City Arts Fest kicks off this Thursday precisely at the same time SIFF Cinema will be pulling back its curtain and christening their new home at the Uptown.
If you're conflicted on which event to attend, City Arts Fest and SIFF will make that decision a little bit easier for you as they combine forces to present some pretty badass sing-alongs all weekend long.
You may not have the vocal range or dance moves as Swedish pop star Robyn (who will be performing as part of City Arts Fest Thursday night at the Paramount) but that shouldn't stop you from leaping out of your theater seat singing (and gyrating) along with Prince to "I Would Die 4 U" or The Times' "Jungle Love" when SIFF hosts the Purple Rain Sing Along at the Uptown. Just don't expect Vanity 6 to provide back-up.
Or if you are looking for a little more punk with your rock then Hedwig and the Angry Inch Sing Along is the place to be. Here’s a hint: if you see Seattle’s own Nick Garrison in the crowd - follow his lead.
Finally, if you’re feeling a little nostalgic for simpler times when “summer lovin’ happened so fast” then step up to the front of the theater and mug right along with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John at City Art’s Grease Sing Along.
It’s hard to believe that these three iconic musicals span a period of almost three decades. But I’ve got to say, Moulin Rouge! and Burlesque have got nothin’ on these sing along classics.
So break out the old vinyl and start practicing. Here’s the official line-up for the action taking place at SIFF Cinema’s newest venue in Queen Anne - the Uptown.
