Weekend Traffic: 520 is Closed Again
We're still a week away from a full closure of the viaduct, but there will still be plenty of construction and activity to snarl traffic over the weekend. The 520 bridge will be closed in both directions to all traffic (again) beginning on Saturday, which is never pleasant, and we'll also see Husky and Sounders traffic jamming up the southern part of the city. Hooray!
Read up on what's planned, so you can spend less time sitting in your car, angry at the bumper stickers in front of you.
Tonight:
- Most of tonight's back-ups will be concentrated around South Center, where crews will be closing 3 southbound lanes and an on-ramp, beginning at 8 p.m.
Saturday:
- The Puget Sound Heart Walk will begin at Seattle Center/Fisher Plaza tomorrow morning around 7:30 a.m., and will close down many streets in Belltown and Downtown. A lot of buses will be re-routed for the 3 mile walk.
- The Huskies will have a home game that is sure to bog down parts of I-5, as well as the U. District. The game time appears to be TBD.
- The Sounders have an evening game, beginning conveniently just before the close of 520. Leave early, and avoid I-5 to get there.
- Saturday night at 8 p.m., the 520 bridge will be closed in both directions. It will re-open on Monday morning at 5 a.m.
Sunday:
- The Sounders have another evening game tonight at 7:00 p.m. Because of potential back-ups on I-90, I-5 is not advised.
- Headed over the pass? Don't. Delays of up to 2 hours can be expected starting on Sunday, as crews work to prepare a new section of highway. Lanes will be closed intermittently for 6 days.
