Go West!: An Oil Spill, Rescue Drills, a Messy Robbery and the New iPhone
What Happened This Week:
- A construction boat sank off Beach Drive SW this morning, spilling fuel and/or oil into the sound. The Washington State Department of Ecology is assessing the damage. Cleanup play-by-play over at WSB.
- Burglars broke into Gianonni's Pizzeria very early this morning, then cut a hole in the wall to get to the Taco Del Mar next door.
- The Seattle City Council heard a ton of citizen input on the West Seattle Triangle Project on Tuesday. Councilmembers are unsure whether there will be a vote by the end of the year, but in case you didn't say your piece, it should come up again November 16.
- Seattle Police have released a sketch of an alleged serial exposer who has been targeting children. One reported incident was in the Alki area near Whale Tail Park. Full details on this guy's alleged reign of gross are over at the SPD Blotter.
- The Water Taxi will have increased service during the viaduct closure -- we hope at least making some commutes easier.
- This week in Seal Sitters news: they've had a busy few weeks. They've counted 37 seal pups so far this season, and they're getting attention from outlets besides the West Seattle Herald and the West Seattle Blog. Which means CUTE PICTURES.
- A West Seattle man has been charged with four domestic violence offenses after allegedly subduing his ex-girlfriend with a stun gun, hogtying her and discussing plans to kill both her and himself for four hours while sitting on her back.
- There was a gigantic line at the AT&T store at the Morgan Junction this morning as people scrambled for the iPhone 4S.
- The Seattle Fire Department did some heavy rescue training last week, and WSB has pictures and video.
- A memorial fund has been set up following the death of beloved West Seattle resident Ed Kingston.
Coming Up:
- The former owner of Pike Place Market's City Fish is taking over ownership of Seattle Fish Company in the Junction, and has some exciting plans for it.
- The Seattle Fire Department be doing some drills this weekend, too, so don't be alarmed at some low-flying helicopters.
