Can't Miss It: Thursday

IN HEAVEN: On her most recent St. Vincent album, this year’s Strange Mercy, singer/songwriter/electric guitarist Annie Clark did something many musicians don’t - she made her sound simpler. Sometimes complex arrangements, crammed samples, sound effects, and other manufactured accoutrements seem to be taking over. So we were happy to hear Clark focused on “getting the point across.” Don’t get the wrong idea though; her playing is innovative, sometimes dirty, and her words are thoughtful, dark, and strange. She’s even got a few live moves to shake things up on stage. Jackpot for the audience. With Cate Le Bon.

8:00 p.m. // Neptune Theatre 1303 NE 45th St. // $18

HOMEWARD AND BOUND: If this doesn’t get your theatre-loving-blood flowing you’re dead, do you hear us, DEAD! Just kidding. You are obviously very much alive, thankfully. Which means you can attend tonight’s opening of Shadow Odyssey, a humorous and intriguing and hopefully blood moving adaptation of Homer’s epic created by shadow puppet innovator Scot Augustson. Live actors in silhouette, shadow puppets, and hand drawn projections surround the audience (situated in a tent) and communicate Ulysses’ timeless tale. Presented by Printer’s Devil Theater and Theatre off Jackson, and directed by Jennifer Jasper. Tonight is pay-what-you-can night. Regularly priced tickets are also available.

7:30 p.m. // Theatre Off Jackson 409 7th Ave S. // $15 or Pay What You Can

BEAT IT, KID: Pacific Science Center’s Puzzle Palooza is a playful problem solver’s paradise. The exhibit is full of puzzles and brain teasers that promise to challenge children, adults, and even the most experienced puzzlers. At the heart of the exhibit is the luminous Groovik’s Cube (which we highlighted last month), a 26-foot playable sculpture created by GroovLabs, a local collective of engineers, artists and scientists. Free for PSC members.

10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. // Pacific Science Center 200 2nd Ave N. // Free - $14
