WRITE LIKE A PRO: 826 Seattle is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center for youth ages six to 18, but every so often the host writing workshops for adults called "Write Like I Do." Because, you know, kids aren't the only ones who could use some writing tips. Each month or so they bring in real-life successful authors to share their wisdom. This month's workshop is focused on character development. Known for writing fully dimensional fictional characters in her books, Jennie Shortridge will share tips, tools, and exercises for breathing life into yours. Coffee, water, writing implements, and paper will be provided.

EDUPUNKS: The Edupunks' Guide is a free ebook, website, an open course on P2PU.org, and a movement for all those who don't fit the traditional educational mold. Edupunks take advantage of the free and affordable resources online to enhance their learning, accomplish their goals and, if they choose, complete a degree. Stephen Reder of LearnerWeb, one of the organizations highlighted in the guide, will join author of the guide Anya Kamenetz to discuss how digital learning can help address educational access.

CAKE-AROKEE: Tuesday nights are special at Highline, Capitol Hill's vegan dive bar. Usually Highline doesn't serve dessert, but on Tuesday nights they bust out some cake to go with their karaoke. Because just maybe good vegan booze isn't enough to get your karaoke buzz going. Pro-tip: Cake sells out fast; get there early.

GET CRAFTY: If you're head-over-heels for all things DIY, bring your emroidery needles and hand-printed canvas bag up to Phinney/Greenwood's Assemble Gallery, also known as 'Craft Heaven.' Tonight, the lovely ladies behind this cute-as-a-button shop will be hosting a book-signing and craft kick-off, featuring Hoopla: The Art of Unexpected Embroidery author Leanne Prain. Get to stichin'!
