Occupy Seattle: 7 (Peaceful?) Arrests
Protesters at Westlake have begun to join arms and refuse to vacate, causing police to begin making arrests. The Parks Department has made it clear that protesters are allowed to stay at the park (legally, they can't really ban them from a public space unless they actively cause a disturbance), but that camping in parks is not allowed, and thus, the tents have to go.
Are the protesters remaining peaceful, as they've stated they would? Depends on who you follow:
Several witnesses on Twitter have noted that protesters have become angry and belligerent, while Occupy Seattle's official account continues to insist that the scene has remained peaceful, with those being arrested going quietly.
Either way, the resistance has begun to call more attention to the protest than at any other point during the last few days. Media outlets which previously offered little to no coverage of the event are not carefully following every development.
Twitter has become an integral tool for receiving transmissions from those who are at the scene, despite the fact that the #OccupySeattle hash-tag is not currently "trending", causing many users to wonder if Twitter itself is making a statement.
Update: A total of 9 arrests are being reported now.
