Weekend Traffic: POTUS is Coming to Town
The viaduct isn't down yet, but there's still going to be plenty of road construction gumming up the roads this weekend.
Oh, also--the President is coming. TO MEDINA. That won't cause back-ups at all, right?
On the plus side, a scheduled closure of parts I-405 was cancelled, which means there will be less traffic than initially expected. However, there will still be ample construction, mostly in Lynnwood, where crews will be re-structuring several on-ramps to cut down on rear-ending and side-swiping.
Saturday:
- A Husky game tomorrow around noon will be causing the standard U-District traffic delays along Montlake and near the freeway at the 45th St. exit. This will also force the re-routes of several Metro bus lines, including the 44, the 68, the 65, the 271, and the 75.
- The Seattle AIDS Walk will also be closing some streets and rerouting some buses. The event begins at Volunteer Park, and will close 12th Avenue from Prospect to Union, and Broadway from Union back to prospect. The full map is here. Bus re-routes include the 2, the 49, and the 60.
Sunday:
- Early Sunday morning, crews will be closing up to 2 lanes of eastbound 520 near Redmond. These closures will last until around noon. West Lake Sammamish Parkway on-ramp will also be closed during that time.
- Downtown might get a little sticky, as well, as one southbound lane of the I-5 express lanes will be closed at Pike Street, as well as the express exit to Pike. These closures are scheduled to be between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- This will definitely come in conflict with those taking the freeway to see the Seahawks play at 1:15 p.m. Highway 99 is probably your best option.
- Also on Sunday...the President is coming! He'll be in the Medina area (because that's where rich people live), as well as in Seattle proper. But, because his visits are always a big surprise, we can't actually tell you where he'll be...or where the traffic that comes with him will be, either.
All Weekend:
- Beginning tonight, the southbound I-5 on-ramp from SR 525 and at I-405 will both be closed. There will be signed detours, and likely quite a bit of backed up traffic. The on-ramps will re-open on Monday morning at 5:00 a.m.
As always, thanks to WSDOT and King County Metro for the information.
