Tweeter of the Week: @RealChangeNews

twitterbird.png From now until I forget to do it, I'm going to highlight my favorite Seattle Tweeter. Think of it like #FollowFriday, but less about getting followers for myself, and more about exposing Twitter accounts that are notable, humorous or informative--and always under 140 characters.

Today's featured Twitter account is that of my absolute favorite local organizations, Real Change, the paper for, by, and about King County's impoverished population. You can find them at @RealChangeNews.

When I first moved to this city, hands down, Real Change was one of the aspects that impressed me the most. Living in Belltown and seeing, day in and day out, the difference between those who were struggling with poverty and seemed entirely disenfranchised, and those who were struggling with poverty, but were empowered by their position as a Real Change vendor, changed the way I saw social services and solutions to homelessness and addiction. Real Change is, bar none, one of the coolest programs I've ever seen. It's also one of Seattle's more reliable sources for interesting news and investigative journalism.

One of the things I love most about Real Change vendors is that they always seem to be connected. They know people, they have an ear to the ground, and they're always good for a story. Similarly, Real Change's Twitter is a great way to connect to many organizations, agencies, and individuals in the city. Always re-tweeting and interacting with various groups and people, @RealChangeNews is a vital news source on Twitter. It'll also let you know what's in the new editions of the paper, what they're looking for, what they're working on, and ways you can help.

@RealChangeNews has captured what is awesome about Real Change and put it online. Follow them immediately.
