Beautiful Berry Pie

If you run with the pastry posse, have a circle of pop-up food friends, or you just appreciate a fine slice of pie, you've probably already been made aware of Kate Lebo's pie stand. Lebo, last year's Cake vs. Pie Best of Show winner and author created the pop-up stand (aptly named Pie Stand) to help get pie to the people, directly from the baker. Think farmers market, only flakier, and with more butter.

This Saturday, she'll set up her temporary sweet shop in a side yard in Ballard, and offer up a "slew of seasonal pies", including peach, nectarine and the first of this year’s Gravenstein apple pies-- in our humble opinion the best pie ever. There will probably be some mixed berry pies too, if she's got any marionberries or raspberries that didn't find a home earlier in the season.

Expect to find slices, mini pies, and full pies for sale for $3.00 - $35.00. But the coffee and conversation are free, and kids and canines are always welcome.

Pie Stand pops up this Saturday, September 24, from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or until Lebo sells out. E-mail kate@pie-scream.com for the address. Can’t make it to see her this Saturday? Mark your calendar for her Pie Life event at City Arts Fest on October 22. You’ll have a chance to hear pie tales from David Schmader, Shauna James Ahern, Sara Dickerman, and Tilson (from the Saturday Knights). There's even a pie contest. For more information hit up City Arts Fest online.
