Weekend Traffic and Transit Alerts: 520 Closure Edition

What fresh hell does WSDOT have planned for traffic this weekend? Oh, just a little closure of 520, among other things. But give them a break--they're doing it for you. Just go slowly, read up on what's going to rerouted and really closed, and plan your trips from there.

It's no one's fault but your own if you don't hit the road prepared.

Tonight:
A Mariner's game at 7:10 p.m. will be gumming up traffic in SoDo. The game ends at 10 p.m., and will likely cause some traffic at that time, too. Be aware.
Also, tonight beginning at 9:00 p.m,, southbound Hwy 99 between the South Royal Brougham Way off-ramp and South Lander Street will be down to one lane.

Saturday:

• Between Lundeen Parkway and SR 92, a single lane of SR 9 will be closed from 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning for stripping work.


• Sounders and Mariners traffic is likely to pile up today, with Ms playing at 4:00 p.m., and the Sounders playing just before the Ms game ends, at 6:00 p.m.


• On the East Side, the Kirkland Triathlon will be taking over Marina Park from 7:00 a.m, until 11:00 a.m, or later. This will impact 230, 234, 238, 245, and 255.

Sunday:

• The Mariners have a day game at 1:10 p.m. today, which is likely to cause bad southbound backups, especially around the 520 exit. It is strongly urged that you take 99 to the game. Or, of course, take a bus.


• From 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., the I-90 express lanes will be closed for the TREK Triathlon. This will also reroute the KC Metro 27, 550, and 554.


• The West Seattle Car Show is this weekend, which will have the Junction pretty much closed down, and will reroute the 22, 51, 54, 55 and 128.

All Weekend:

• 520 will be closed all weekend, beginning late tonight, and continuing until 5 a.m. on Monday. All of the 520 bridge will be closed to all traffic, automobile or otherwise. This will impact the 255, 280, 271, 230, the Medina Shuttle, and the ST 545.


• The overpass above SR 520 at Bellevue Way Northeast will also be closed, and will remain closed, as it is being demolished, to make room for a nicer overpass and HOV situation.


• Express lanes on I-90 and I-5 will both be open to help with the congestion...except for when they're closed for the TREK run.
