If you’re an art lover (or a Seattlest reader, which you are, right?) and you’ve been around the Emerald City arts community for any length of time, chances are you’ve come across a SuttonBeresCuller (SBC) installation. Even if you aren’t an avid consumer of the artistic variety you’ve probably tripped across one of their pieces strolling down Broadway, or making your way to work across the 520 bridge.

SuttonBeresCuller is a decade-old collaborative, built by John Sutton, Ben Beres, and Zac Culler. The threesome started working together while attending Cornish, where they now teach. After college, they showed with Scott Lawrimore in the ID while he still occupied a very large gallery, affording them the opportunity to stage the memorable Three Dragon Restaurant on his site. Their work has been featured at the Henry Art Gallery (Panoptos), as well as on Lake Washington (The Island) and, in addition to national exhibitions in LA and New York, they’ve added their 2 cents to the SAM sculpture park over the years.

This isn’t SBC’s first stop at OTB, either--they've made previous contributions to the theatre's "12 Minutes Max" and NW New Works Festival. But the group's upcomming project, To Be Determined, is one of the most buzzed about happenings in the city's arts community. After 2 months of inhabiting (think artists-in-residence) OTB’s main stage theater, the trio will premiere a performative art installation, created to challenge the traditional ways performance art goers interact with and access the space.

“Visual artists have very different ideas about what a performance is and I think working with SBC helps broaden the definition of what we mean when we call ourselves a ‘center for contemporary performance.”, said On the Boards artistic director Lane Czaplinski.

SBC was given free rein to create installations and events throughout OTB for 4 nights only. No exact details of how that will manifest are available but we’ve been given a heads up that no two nights will be the same. We think we’re in for a good adventure.

Already booked that weekend? The next best thing to being there will be catching it at OntheBoards.tv later this year.

To Be Determined // Sept. 15- 18 // 7:00 p.m. // $15
