Can't Miss It: The Weekend
UNDERNEATH A HARVEST MOON: Although our Summer continues strong, dusk is arriving faster each night, bringing with it now a portentous chill. This is ant-time, grasshopper. Time to wind your way down to the Good Shepherd Center for the annual Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair this Saturday. Check out the urban livestock--bees, goats, and chickens--the farmers market, workshops on mushrooms and fermentation, cider pressing, and music from Fathia Atallah et Les Troubadours, Holy Crows, Nyamuziwa Marimba, and Bucharest Drinking Team. Stock your stores, pad your larder.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. // Good Shepherd Center // FREE (Donations Accepted)
LEND SOME LIGHT: And in these ever darkening days, how do we spread light to our neighbors, our family, and our community? Take a cue from Burien, we suppose, and start building a grip of lanterns. This weekend marks the return of Burien's Lantern Festival & Procession, where art and performers are around every corner, and face painting and tea leaf readings are common. Attendees are encouraged to make their own lantern and join the procession as the evening descends. Music will be provided by harpist Jini O'Flynn, Magical Strings, and Lucia's Neare's Theatrical Wonders, guaranteeing there will be a twinkle of magic in every exhalation of wind.
Saturday 5:00-10:00 p.m. // Dottie Harper Park // FREE
A HAWAIIAN HOWDY: The Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival returns to the Seattle Center for a fourth year this weekend, carrying with it two stages of entertainment, Hawaiian crafts and goods for sale, local Hawaiian food favorites, and, of course, some lei making workshops. Keep your ears open for O`ahuans Hi`ikua, Halau Hula O Lono - Kumu Hula Manu Lono, The Moodswings Jazz Band, and members of SUPA, which is the Seattle Ukulele Players Association. Don't get mainland about this, think islands.
