Gothamist weathered through Hurricane Irene with little damage in NYC but the devastation was worse upstate, with damages expected to total $1 billion. One bright spot of Irene was camaraderie—and El Bloombito.
DCist, having made it through the week of natural disasters, got back to business as usual -- documenting misbehavior in the city’s government, like city Republicans accusing Councilmembers of inappropriately directing funds to partisan groups and a strip club which was built with funds that were supposed to be used to house people with HIV/AIDS.
Chicagoist headed into the holiday weekend with the news that the city’s pot smokers pay a lot for their weed.
Bostonist was beaten into submission by Hurricane Irene, briefly, this week. Irene turned into a power problem in Massachusetts, except for the Patriots, and truly devastated Vermont. Power outages dwindled throughout the week as questions increased for Hawaii-loving National Grid Massachusetts President Marcy Reed.
LAist found out that some drivers have crossbows in their cars and sometimes will fire at boys who throw rocks at them.
Austinist got wind of a U. Texas' professor's proposal for legally protecting ugly people.
SFist watched at the BART protests turned the inevitable corner to BART counter-protests. (Only two arrests!)
