B-Shoot's B-Roll: Film Fare at Bumbershoot

Labor Day Weekend is upon us, which means crowded campsites, hella traffic and, most importantly, Seattle’s all-encompassing arts festival, Bumbershoot. The festival has been rocking Labor Day Weekend since 1971, and it’s more popular and relevant than ever.

While best known for its amazing music lineup, Bumbershoot also stretches its reach to other art communities. We at Seattlest are especially psyched for the 1 Reel Film Festival, which is curated by SIFF. Not only do these programs provide a wealth of interesting and rarely viewed films, but also they offer a cool refuge from the swarming, shoving crowds and a chance to rest your dancin’ shoes.

Bringing your kiddos? Check out the Films4Families programs, beginning each day at noon. These short film packages offer everything from German and French animations to one of my favorite YouTube sensations, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,”. Have a soft spot for romance and l’amour? Cuddle up with “Cupid Attack” or “What’s Love Got To Do With It?,” both programs featuring all things related to love. Or bring out your inner dork at screenings of “Song and Dance” or “Nerds Unite!”, which collectively encourage capes and sing-alongs (nerd alert!).

Films are also provided for those of us involved with the local filmmaking community. Both Audience and Jury Award winners from this year’s Seattle International Film Festival are featured as well as the 2011 SIFF Fly Films, which were created in just five days.

These are just a few of the many packages curated specially for Bumbershoot audiences. You can see the full listing here.

In those inevitable moments throughout the weekend when your dogs are barkin’, your stomach’s a-growlin’ and your ears are ringin’, remember to head over to SIFF Cinema at McCaw Hall for a different kind of fare.

September 3-5 // SIFF Cinema at McCaw Hall // $35/day or $90/3-Day Pass
